Buliisa District is at Risk of Cholera outbreak

By Innocent Atuganyira

Following continued flooding of water in the district, residents are living in fear of cholera outbreak. They have revealed that their places of convenience were also submerged and they don’t have where to ease themselves.

Okumu Richard a resident of Bugoigo landing site explains that it’s too hard for his family to ease themselves and in most cases they ease themselves in the nearby bush at night.

Tumwesige Gerald a resident of Walukuba landing site also says that since their place of places of convenience were submerged, they are worried of cholera outbreak.

The Buliisa DHO Dr. Nelson Naisye told our reporter that the problem is beyond the capacity of the district and they are trying to communicate to the OPM to see how they can be helped.

Since the most affected people are along the lake shores, Dr. Nelson has appealed them to vacate to safer places and continue using piped water.

More than 600 homesteads have been affected by flooding water in the district. Recently health workers at Butiaba health centre 3 were displaced by flooding water.

Floods have also cut off Kabolwa- Kisiabi road and residents are using Buliisa- Hoima road next to Buliisa General Hospital to access services.
