Andrew Mwenda, one of Uganda’s veteran journalists and a political activist was today Tuesday July 11, told by officials at the National Unity Platform (NUP) party, that he picked the wrong nomination forms for contesting for the party presidency.
Addressing journalists at NUP party headquarters in Kamwokya-Kampala, Joel Ssenyonyi, the party Spokesperson revealed that Mwenda picked the forms for Parliamentary aspirants instead of the presidency as he had intended.

“Unfortunately, Mwenda never cared to check whether he was given the right nomination forms,” he noted.
Revealing the correct days for picking the presidential nomination forms, Ssenyonyi said, “the Delegates Conference which took place last year elected Kyagulanyi as a leader of NUP but not the flag bearer for NUP.
Therefore, as NUP, our offices will be open on Friday August 14 for those who want to run for party presidential flag bearers to pick the nomination forms. On August 21, we shall be closing.”
Senyonyi also called upon Mwenda to go back and pick the correct forms.
“Andrew Mwenda can come and pick forms if he wants but those that he took are not for party presidential flag bearer, instead they are for MPs, youth leaders and councilors,” he noted.

This message was welcomed with cheers by the majority of supporters of NUP who were available, who argued that Mwenda does not have the capacity of leading their party.
“He is just proud but we have shown him his level actually, he deserves to be an LC one chairman not even an MP on our ticket,” one supporter said.
The current party leader Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine assured members that they will welcome everyone who shall contest.
“I will pick my nomination forms for the party presidential flag bearer on Friday this week,” he noted.
