Museveni Appionts IGG Irene Mulyagonja to Court of Appeal

President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Inspector General of Government (IGG) Irene Mulyagonja to the Supreme Court.

Mulyagonja is appointed alongside other 10 Judges to the Court of Appeal and the High Court respectively —filling the longtime gaps in the courts of judicature.

The president has appointed three justices to the Court of Appeal and eight to the High Court.

The Supreme Court is the highest judicial organ in Uganda and it derives its powers from Article the 1995 Constitution.

Those appointed to the Court of Appeal include; Kibeedi Muzamiru Mutangula, Mugenyi Monica Kalengira, and Irene Mulyagonja who has been the Inspector General of Government.

Those appointed to High Court include Mugabo Vincent Emmy, Businge Immaculate, Jane Okuo and Muwata Isaac.

Others include Byaruhanga Jesse Rugyema, Sserunkuma Isah, Rwakakoko Jeanne and Abinnyo Suzanne.

Solomon Muyita, the Judiciary spokesperson confirmed the appointments.

President seems to have responded to long time complaints by the Judiciary about shortages of judges to tackle the staggering case backlog.
