First Presidential candidate Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa has been nominated today on National Resistance Movement ticket (NRM) at Kyambogo Cricket ground in the forth coming 2021 polls.

Museveni arrived at nomination center at around 9:45 and was escorted in a waiting tent while his credentials were presented to the chairman of EC.

After his nomination Museveni said that he Hear people saying all manner of things that I am already president and want to come back, they are planning all sorts of stupid things to disrupt the process will be delt with.

Museveni said that his government is prepared to take on political players including fellow presidential candidates who are planning to cause chaos during election season which is now in motion.

“I am a candidate, but as you know I am also president, and as president I hear alot of things. I have been hearing that some people want to go and do stupid things. But i want to assure them that no one will disrupt this process. Anyone who tries will regret because we don’t play. We fought to bring peace in this nation,” Museveni warned.

However the Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama has refuted allegations that the EC is not in control of the electoral process.

He was responding to criticism from the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) spokesperson Ibrahim Semujju Nganda who said that the EC had lost control of the process and that they are only working on orders of incumbent President Museveni.

Byabakama said: “Let them put up an instance and say that in this way, or by saying such a statement, we indicated that we were being directed by the president. The constitution does not even say so.”

Byabakama said that some Ugandans want to generalise issues but can not point at a specific incidence that shows that EC is under the direction of the president.

He said that as the EC they have tried to meet all candidates and have involved them in the electoral process.

“We met all the candidates and asked them to raise comments on what he had put in place. There is no way you can say that we are being ordered,” Byabakama added.

The Electoral Commission is currently in the process of nominating presidential aspirants. The process which started today ends tomorrow
