Kabarongo talking to school children in Lyantonde

Lyantonde, Uganda —In a bold move to revolutionize education in Lyantonde district, aspiring Woman Member of Parliament Kabarongo Namara Mugisha is making waves with her dedicated efforts to improve school infrastructure and support underprivileged children. Her initiatives are not only reshaping local schools but also positioning her as a formidable future leader in the district’s political landscape.

Kabarongo has invested heavily in renovating key primary schools, with projects including the 31 million shilling overhaul of Kiyinda COU Primary School, and upgrades at Buyaga, Nsiika, and Kempega Primary Schools costing 8, 10, and 12 million shillings respectively. These renovations have provided students with modern, conducive learning environments, boosting morale and educational outcomes.

In addition, she responded swiftly to ongoing challenges faced by schools, supporting disaster response efforts at St Johns Comprehensive Secondary School with 5 million shillings, ensuring uninterrupted learning for students. Renovations are also underway at Mpumudde Primary School, promising a brighter future for its pupils.

Lyantonde faces daunting educational hurdles: approximately 63% of pupils who start primary school drop out before completion, and about 1 in 10 children of school-going age have never attended school. Furthermore, the district’s adult illiteracy rate remains high at 72%.

Empowering the Vulnerable

Beyond infrastructure, Kabarongo has championed social support by securing bursaries for over 50 underprivileged children at Elista Primary School in Mattuuga and Greenland Primary School in Lwengo. Covering seven years of education, these bursaries have been instrumental in reducing dropout rates and opening doors for children who would otherwise be denied access to quality education.

With a strong academic background from Makerere University, Kabarongo’s strategic approach and genuine commitment have earned her praise from school directors, students, and community members alike.

Mr. Ssentong Stanley, director of Elista Primary School, remarked, “Kabarongo’s support has been a game-changer. Her dedication to education is inspiring.”

Looking Ahead

As her efforts continue to bear fruit, many see Kabarongo Mugisha not only as a key player in the district’s educational revival but also as a promising political figure poised to bring meaningful change. Her grassroots initiatives are setting a new standard for leadership—one rooted in action, compassion, and hope for Lyantonde’s children.

Mugisha’s unwavering dedication to transforming Lyantonde’s education sector exemplifies what true leadership looks like. Through infrastructure development, social support, and strategic advocacy, she is paving the way for a brighter, more literate, and inclusive future—one child at a time.
