Good Heart Uganda Donates Agricultural Seeds to Elderly Persons in Iganga District

IGANGA, Uganda – In a bid to combat malnutrition and food insecurity, Good Heart Uganda, a community-based not-for-profit organization, has donated seeds to elderly persons in Lwerera village, Nawanyingi, Iganga district.

The donation, which aimed to support the elderly persons and vulnerable children under their care, was handed over by Mukisa Rogers Muyambi, founder of Good Heart Uganda. Muyambi noted that elderly persons have become increasingly vulnerable due to family neglect, which has become common in the area.

Good Heart encourages community members with unused farm lands to allow old persons use it. This program, according to the village leaders, has helped to revive the spirit of brotherhood.

“The high poverty rates in Uganda have caused children to neglect their parents in villages as they go to hustle in the cities,” Muyambi said. “This has left many elderly persons without support, leading to malnutrition and food insecurity.”

The village Chairperson, Muwumba Mubaraka, commended Good Heart Uganda for the support, saying that the village had lost several senior members due to neglect and lack of family support.

“We encourage other community members to emulate Good Heart Uganda’s support by showing kindness to the elderly, such as making their laundry, cooking a meal for them, or even just donating a talk time with an elderly person,” Mubaraka said.

Good Heart Uganda was founded in 2014 by Muyambi, a journalist working with RFM, a local radio station in Iganga town. The organization works with elderly persons and vulnerable children under their care, providing support and promoting their well-being.

In addition to the seed grant donation, Good Heart Uganda also offered free HIV testing and counseling to community members, as part of its efforts to contribute to the fight against the increasing rates of HIV prevalence in the community.

Muyambi expressed gratitude to all who have supported Good Heart Uganda over the years, saying that their generosity, kindness, and commitment to the cause have not gone unnoticed.

“We are grateful for your trust in us and for your partnership in our mission to spread love and hope to those who need it most,” Muyambi said.
