Makerere University Kicks Off 76th Graduation Ceremony in 2026
Makerere University officially launched its 76th Graduation Ceremony Today, February 24th, 2026, at the university’s iconic Freedom Square. The four-day event marks a significant milestone in the institution’s long-standing history of academic achievement and excellence.
The ceremony began with students from the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, College of Computing and Information Sciences, College of Education and External Studies, and the School of Law taking to the stage to receive their degrees. A total of 16,795 students are set to graduate this year, including 213 PhDs, 2,503 Masters degrees, 206 Postgraduate Diplomas, 6,343 Undergraduate Degrees, and 30 Undergraduate Diplomas.
Among the standout graduates are Ms. Sarah Aloyo and Ms. Nakato Dorothy, both Bachelor of Procurement and Supply Chain Management students. They achieved the highest academic performance in the Humanities and overall, respectively, with an impressive CGPA of 4.93. Other notable top students include Mr. Ssewalu Abdul in Leisure and Hospitality Management, and outstanding science students Ms. Esther Ziribaggwa in Agricultural and Rural Innovation, and Mr. Simon Mungudit in Petroleum Geoscience and Production.
The university also announced distinguished speakers for each day of the celebration, beginning with Prof. Nicholas Ozor from the African Technology Policy Studies Network in Nairobi, Kenya, who will address graduates today. The subsequent days will feature prominent figures including Prof. Dr. Maggie Kigozi, Dr. Patricia Adongo Ojangole, and Ms. Reeta Roy, former President & CEO of Mastercard Foundation.
