48 Arrested in Kabale During Joint Police-UPDF Operations

Police in Kabale have arrested 48 people in a series of joint operations with the UPDF over the weekend, aimed at maintaining security during the festive season.
The arrests took place within Kabale municipality, with 11 people apprehended on Saturday night, December 16th, and 37 more, including 3 women, on Sunday night, December 17th. 17 motorcycles were also impounded during the operations.
According to a statement issued by ASP Maate Elly, the PRO Kigezi, some of those arrested were found in possession of illegal drugs like opium, while others were carrying tools suspected to be used for break-ins. Additionally, some individuals were found with suspected stolen property that they could not account for. Traffic offenses such as driving with folded number plates, without a license, or without insurance were also cited as reasons for arrests.
Among the suspects named in the statement are Geoffrey Twinamatsiko, Francis Barisigara, Hillary Nuwagaba, Joshua Kahigi, Oscar Akamputira, Paul Sabiti, Adolf Ainembabazi, Tonny Twinomusinguzi, Erasmus Katushabe, Alfred Nuwamanya, Jackson Habasa, Moses Tumushabe, Agnes Kyomuhangi, Nyinawomuntu Donata, Denis Mujunensi, Jasper Ahumuza, Francis Mwebaze, and Benjamin Akanyijuka.
ASP Maate Elly assured the public that these operations will continue to target individuals with suspicious behavior or criminal intent, with the aim of ensuring a peaceful festive season. He further stated that those arrested will be screened with the help of area chairpersons, and any identified “wrong elements” will be brought before the courts.
