The newly-elected National Resistance Movement (NRM) chairpersons and executive members of Namutumba District are up in arms over what they described as professional misconduct by the party’s electoral commission chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi.
According to the leaders, Dr. Tanga exhibited a high level of unprofessionalism when he caused commotion, disorganization and confusion in the recently concluded party internal elections.
They said the electoral commission boss failed to effectively execute his role when he decided to side with some candidates to take part in electoral fraud.
In a copy of resolutions shared in one of the district WhatsApp groups and seen by this news website, the NRM district leaders watered down calls for the re-election of Namutumba district NRM chairperson, saying that such calls are being engineered by the area district Woman MP, Hon. Naigaga Mariam who lost miserably to Mr. Simon Menya.
In the election, Mr. Menya garnered 489 votes whereas Hon. Naigaga got 108 votes.
“Those calling for re-election are self-seekers and are against the NRM party in the district,” Mr. Menya said.
He also warned Dr. Tanga to desist from meddling in the affairs of Namutumba and should not dare go to the district to organize a rerun.
“We are not willing to go for a re-run since we were not informed officially in time to prepare adequately for the exercise.”
Mr. Charles Bogere, the NRM Chairperson- Kagulu also urged Dr. Tanga not to be used as a weapon by greedy leaders and that he should always consult the district Returning Officers and security team.
“The NRM EC Chairperson should desist from meddling in the affairs of the district because of being influenced by self- seeking politicians who do not want to concede defeat,” the 14 sub- county NRM Chairpersons and other league members unanimously resolved.
The development comes at a time when Dr. Tanga is being accused of messing up the NRM party electoral process in some parts of the country.
For example, in Rubaga division- Kampala, Dr. Tanga was accused of presiding over a flawed Entrepreneur League election marred by irregularities.
NRM began the electoral process for LC1 chairperson flagbearer and party structures on May 6th ,2025 but in some areas, the exercise was marred by chaos.
