Hon. Evans Kanyike, A Brick Maker who became an MP

Meet Hon. Evans Kanyike, a true rags-to-riches story and inspiration to many. As the Member of Parliament for Bukoto East Constituency, Kanyike’s journey is a testament to hard work, determination, and perseverance. From humble beginnings as a brick maker in Kitoma Village to becoming a successful car businessman and now a legislator, Kanyike’s story is one of triumph over adversity.

Born to Ssalongo Joseph Kaaya and Margret Nakayondo, Kanyike’s entrepreneurial spirit was ignited at a young age. His father, a renowned businessman and farmer, instilled in him the value of hard work. Kanyike started as a brick maker, but his vision for bigger things led him to venture into car sales in Masaka Town.

Kanyike’s car business took off after he saved $1,000 working as a Sales Manager at Uganda Bureaus. He invested in an Isuzu Truck from Dubai, marking the beginning of his successful car importing business. Today, his car yard in Kyata Bond boasts a vast array of vehicles, including Toyota Harrier, Premio, and Mark X.

Kanyike attributes his success to discipline, courage, and fostering good relationships with clients and brokers. He emphasizes the importance of believing in oneself and staying focused on goals. His recommended read, “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie, is a testament to his commitment to personal growth.

As a car importer, Kanyike faces challenges such as high taxes and bureaucracy in clearing cars. He advocates for tax revision, citing the need for a more favorable business environment.

Kanyike draws inspiration from Ugandan businessman Patrick Bitatule and Chinese entrepreneur Jack Ma. His story serves as a beacon of hope for young entrepreneurs and aspiring politicians.

As a hands-on legislator, lover of youth and development, and father, Kanyike’s commitment to public service is evident. His journey from brick maker to parliamentarian is a shining example of what can be achieved through dedication and perseverance.
