Born in Namungalwe, Kawete, Iganga District, Waiswa’s early life was marked by poverty and hardship, but he never let his circumstances define him.
Despite the challenges he faced, Waiswa persevered and worked hard to excel in school. He attended Victory Preparatory School, Kiggulu College – Namungalwe, Jinja Senior Secondary School, and Iganga High School, before joining Busitema University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture.
Waiswa’s journey to success was not without its challenges. He recalls with tears the first time he wore shoes, which was in Primary Seven when he was going to sit for his national final examinations (Primary Leaving Examination- PLE).
“I urge every person who feels like giving up to lean their faith in prayer, to keep trying. The future is forever bright and shiny to everyone. The same God that lifted me up to this is the same God who can do the same for you.” – Waiswa Nicholas
Like a number of children from poverty stricken families, Waiswa education was also made possible by the “kindness of generous people including Phiona Kyamateked, who bought me a new uniform when mine was stolen, and Munyole Andrew, who provided me with financial and material support during my A-level”
After completing his university education, Waiswa began his career as a full-time agricultural teacher and part-time manager at Muziransa Farm.
He dedicated his life to improving the quality of life among the rural farmers by sharing free professional support.
“I was raised by peasant parents who struggled to see me through. By supporting rural farmers I feel am giving back to the people who dedicated their resources to help me succeed,” Waiswa narrates.
As the Executive Director of community organizations like Citizen Foundation for Youth and Vulnerable, and Citizen Farmers, he has been able to organize rural farmers into highly profitable agricultural ventures and praised for improved their livelihoods. He has partnered with Hatched Ltd to improve poultry farming in Buikwe District.
Waiswa credits his mother, Nabirye Eva, and Mrs. Aisha Muziransa Sikyangwa for being the biggest influences in his life. He is grateful for their support and encouragement.
Waiswa’s story is a true inspiration to many. It shows that with hard work, determination, and perseverance, anyone can achieve their dreams, no matter how impossible they may seem. “I urge every person who feels like giving up to lean their faith in prayer, to keep trying,” Waiswa says. “The future is forever bright and shiny to everyone. The same God that lifted me up to this is the same God who can do the same for you.”
Waiswa’s foundation, Citizen Foundation for Youth and Vulnerable, is dedicated to providing support to needy individuals and communities. He started the foundation because he wants to extend a hand to those in need, so that no one has to go through the same struggles he faced.
