UPDF 2 Infantry Division Football Team in Rwanda for Friendly Match

Ubworoherane Stadium, Musanze District, Rwanda– The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 2 Infantry Division football team is in Rwanda for a friendly match against the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) 5 Infantry Division at Musanze Stadium in Musanze District, later today.
The UPDF delegation was received at the Cyanika One Stop Border Post by Brig Gen Justus Majambere, Commander of the RDF 5 Infantry Division.
This marks the second “proximity match” between the two armies, following the first encounter held at Kyamate Playground in Ntungamo District, Uganda on 31 May 2025.
The games are a product of ongoing engagements between the UPDF and RDF aimed at strengthening cooperation through sports and cultural exchanges.
Maj Gen Paul Muhanguzi, Commander of the UPDF 2 Infantry Division, appreciated Rwanda’s hospitality.
We thank the RDF leadership for the usual brotherly welcome. Rwanda is our second home away from home. We are grateful for the cordial relationship we enjoy not only with civilians in Uganda but across the entire region, he said.
Such initiatives are designed to deepen bilateral relations, curb cross-border crime, and promote socio-economic transformation in border communities.
