 Late John Ssebana Kizito’s Remembered For  Boosting Uganda, Africa’s Economy

The Uganda State Wide Insurance Company (SWICO) and Insurance Training College in Uganda has held the 8th Memorial lecturer in remembering the legacy and the commendable work done by the late John Ssebana Kizito in the business and the political sector which transformed the lives of Ugandans and Africans.

During the training and workshop held at Hotel Brovad, hundreds gathered to reflect and honor the late Ssebana Kizito whose role of setting up the two companies: State Wide Insurance Company and Insurance regulatory Authority of Uganda which has employed majority of the business professionals in Uganda and abroad thus far.

In a highly attended insurance for sustainable development training ; the business community started with a one minute moment of silence in remembering the life of the late John Ssebana Kizito with the words of wisdom from Dr. Ibrahim Lubega Kadunabi, also the Executive Director of State Wide Insurance Company.

The days’ lecture reflected on the life of the late Ssebaana whose life and legacy made the business community, especially the banking sector to steady progress and growth as the founder of State Wide Insurance Company in 1975 and serving as the General Manager for National Insurance Company in 1964.

Dr. Ibrahim Lubega Kadunabi; the Executive Director State Wide Insurance Company  said that he was a man who in many accounts a mentor and his steady vision laid to the foundation of many establishments including being part during the establishment and chairperson of Muteesa 1 royal University in Uganda.

“These human attributes helped him to build an alliance in governance and as we reflect on his life we must reflect on what his life yields to us currently as he believed in insurance and businesses; Better local governance and create policies in favor of the public,” he said.

“Thank you for the gift of his labor and his wiser governance and compassion in business makes him outstanding. Insurance is an enabler. No business can sustain without the insurance and plays several roles such as risk transfer and capital and long-term planning and monitoring as when a business is not insured businesses face initial risks and losses,” he added.

He emphasized the issue of system and governance through business and politics during the late Milton Obote and President Yoweri Museveni and served in the ruling government as the Minister of Cooperatives and local government as well as the Executive Director for National Insurance Corporation.

According to Mr. Zaake Ronald also the Managing Director Grand Micro Insurance Company Limited; it is good to know that in business, most of the important aspects that determines the success of the business is insurance; Macro and Micro insurance and it is good to know that with macro insurance activities such as funeral and having saving sacco groups are some of the macro insurance, people normally have done before.

Additionally, the day’s training saw panelists such as Mr. John Makosya also the Chief operations and impact officer Agro insurance Consortium and Mr. Joseph Kiyimba also the owner of Ambiance Group Company and Ms Jennifer Mirembe Ssensiwa also the chief Executive Officer Weerinde Insurance Brokerage Services Limited.

Mr. Joseph Kiyimba, the owner of Ambiance Company said that because of the late John Ssebana Kizito of setting up the insurance company, he was able insure his life in insurance Company Limited where he save money for his life and it has also enabled him to have security on his businesses already in insurance company.

“I normally get back to the insurance company in Uganda founded by the late Ssebaana to get funds to cater for my health which I have saved before and am a long time client of in the field of insurance. I appeal to the insurance companies and insurance regulatory authorities to cut on the costs charged by the regulators on clients to ensure all Ugandans are saving their properties in insurance” he said.

According to Mr. Makosha; they are still grappling with little shs: 5billion funds got from government annually and they appealed to the government to get 25 billion annually to ensure that most of the people including a one million issued people in agro farming and other business owners are insured,” he added.
