KABALE-A 12-year-old boy has been killed in a tragic accident involving a motor grader in Kabale, Uganda.
The incident happened on Friday, January 19, 2024, at around 2:00 PM in Kakokye village, Maziba town council. The driver of the grader, identified as Rwehahira Deogratias, 54, from Nyakijumba southern division Kabale municipality, is said to have been reversing the vehicle when he accidentally hit the boy, Nahwera Rauben, a pupil at Mukokye primary school.
According to a statement issued by the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, Deogratias was not aware that children were following him from behind. He only realized something was wrong when he heard a noise and stopped the grader. Other children then informed him that he had knocked down their friend.
The police were called to the scene and a postmortem examination was conducted on the boy’s body. It has since been released to the family for burial.
“More inquiries are at hand,” ASP Maate said in the statement
