Buvuma Leaders Hosts Mukono Diocese Bishop, Seek Support for Health Facility Expansion

By Wasswa Zebio

‎‎The Bishop of Mukono Diocese, Church of Uganda, Rt. Rev. Kitto Kagodo, has visited Buvuma District Headquarters where he held an interactive meeting with political leaders and civil servants.

Bishop Kagodo, who was accompanied by Rev. Canon Stephen Kironde, the Archdeacon of Ngongwe Deaconry and other members of the clergy, pledged to consider the district’s request for land to facilitate the expansion of Namatale Health Centre III in Bweema.

‎‎The visit marked the beginning of the Bishop’s four-day pastoral tour of the Buvuma islands, which will conclude on Saturday, September 20, 2025.

‎‎While addressing district leaders, Bishop Kagodo urged them to remain committed to integrity and service.

‎‎“God calls us to add value. We call upon all the people of God not to relent in doing good. Do good wherever you are,” he said.

‎Speaking on behalf of the political leadership, District Speaker Hon. Onyango Gad Daniel Opondo applauded the Church of Uganda for its ongoing contribution to community transformation in Buvuma. He particularly praised church-led initiatives in education and agriculture, while extending an invitation for more investments in the islands.

‎“Our doors are always open for you and all other partners. We are committed to working hand in hand with the Church to accelerate development,” Hon. Opondo noted.

‎‎Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Isa Mbooge, also commended the Church of Uganda for championing socio-economic initiatives that directly impact the lives of the people of Buvuma.

‎‎“The Church of Uganda has played a central role in supporting education and oil palm development, and we are grateful for their partnership,” Mr. Mbooge emphasized.

‎‎The Church of Uganda remains a key stakeholder in Buvuma’s service delivery, with major contributions in establishing schools, promoting oil palm growing, and spearheading community development programs.

‎‎Bishop Kagodo’s visit is expected to strengthen collaboration between the Church and district leadership, with hopes of unlocking more opportunities for social and economic transformation across the islands.
