Fire engulfs Stanbic bank Nakasero branch

KAMPALA, Uganda: A devastating fire has gutted Umoja House in Nakasero, a building that houses the Stanbic Bank Nakasero branch, leaving a trail of destruction and chaos in its wake. The cause of the fire is still unknown, but authorities have urged people in the area to assemble at All Saints Church Nakasero, which has been designated as a fire assembly point.

Patrick Arebu, the Head of Health and Safety at Stanbic Bank, confirmed the incident and said that the cause of the fire had not yet been established. “We are still investigating the cause of the fire and will provide more information as soon as possible,” he said.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as “apocalyptic,” with smoke billowing into the air. “I was in the area when I saw the fire start,” said one witness. “People were running out of the building and smoke was coming out from the kitchen side.”

Emergency services are on the scene, with firefighters battling to contain the blaze. The police have cordoned off the area, and traffic has been diverted to allow emergency vehicles to access the scene.
