The Deputy Presidential Press Secretary, Hajji. Faruk Kirunda has described the death of the former Presidential Press Secretary Francis Onapito Ekomoloit as one that has deprived Uganda of an illustrious son.
A senior journalist, former Press Secretary to H.E the President and former Member of Parliament representing the people of Amuria, Onapito was pronounced dead on Friday morning by the NRM Vice Chairperson for the Eastern Region Flight Capt. Mike Mukula.
At the time he met his demise, Onapito was serving as the Board Chairperson for Nile Breweries Uganda Limited.
In his message to the public, Mr. Faruk Kirunda, the Deputy Presidential Press Secretary said; it is” Too bad to lose Comrade Onapito Ekomoloit, another former Presidential Press Secretary, just after we lost Tamale Mirundi. Teso and Uganda have been deprived of an illustrious son and professional who had great ideas that he delivered effortlessly and respectfully. May his soul rest in eternal peace!”
Onapito, know for his moderate and yet striking views on social political platforms has worked in several news rooms and with senior journalists such as Chris Obore, the Public Affairs Manager at Parliament, among others.
The Speaker of Parliament Annet Anitah Among, in her eulogy said, “I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of our brother Onapito Ekomoloit. He was a journalist of excellence, a former Press Secretary to the President, and a former MP. His honest and humble contributions to our country speak for themselves. My heartfelt sympathies go out to H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, his family, friends, the press fraternity, the Nile Breweries family, and the Teso community. May his soul rest in peace.”
Burial program for the former Press Secretary to the President is yet to be communicated.
