Finance Minister Hon Henry Musasizi has urged the Insurance Training College (ITC) to continue delivering highly competent human capital for Uganda’s insurance sector, saying a skilled workforce is critical to the growth, stability and competitiveness of the country’s financial services industry.
Hon Musasizi made the remarks during a meeting with the ITC Board and Management at the Ministry of Finance, where he commended the institution for its contribution to strengthening the insurance industry through professional training.
The Minister noted that the college had trained more than 10,000 insurance professionals by June 2026, a significant increase from about 4,000 graduates in 2021, describing the achievement as a reflection of the institution’s growing impact on the sector.
He also applauded the ITC Board and Management for strengthening corporate governance, saying sound leadership has enabled the college to expand its reach and enhance the quality of insurance education.
The ITC delegation was led by Board Chairman Dr. Abdul Hafiz Walusimbi and Principal and Chief Executive Officer Saul Sseremba.
Dr. Walusimbi said the college’s achievements over the past five years include providing strategic leadership, strengthening corporate governance, growing its financial base, and expanding partnerships across Africa.
Sseremba revealed that insurance education has now been integrated into Uganda’s secondary school curriculum, with more than 700 entrepreneurship teachers trained across the country to deliver the programme.
He appealed to government to support the development of the college’s proposed permanent campus on land already acquired, saying the project would strengthen training capacity and position ITC as Africa’s leading insurance education institution.
Founded in 1964, the Insurance Training College serves as the educational arm of Uganda’s insurance industry, providing professional training and capacity building for practitioners while supporting the continued growth of the country’s insurance sector.
