President Museveni Fulfils UGX 50 Million Pledge for Fr. Bagumisiriza’s Marriage Book.

‎
‎President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has fulfilled his pledge of Shs 50 million to Rev. Dr. Narcisio Bagumisiriza, author of “African Customary and Christian Marriages Compared.”
‎
‎The money was delivered on Saturday , by the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Hon. Henry Musasizi, who represented the President at the book’s launch back in April, 2024.
‎
‎Speaking on the President’s behalf, Minister Musasizi recalled that Fr. Bagumisiriza was among the first people to welcome Museveni and his Uganda Patriotic Movement (UPM) when he challenged the UPC government in the 1980 elections. Fr. Bagumisiriza later supported and mobilized for the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
‎
‎“This is a reminder that President Museveni does not forget his historical people. Fr. Bagumisiriza is one of those who spread the good news of the NRM. Many years later, the President has rewarded him,” Musasizi said.
‎
‎
‎Musasizi said the fulfilled pledge should encourage others who are waiting for presidential pledges, adding that the President honours his commitments in due course.
‎
‎“As you’ve heard, the President made this pledge of Shs 50 million when I represented him at the book launch over two years ago. At the time, I was still State Minister of Finance. A few days ago, I met the President, and he gave me the package for Fr. Bagumisiriza,” he said.
‎
‎
‎Fr. Bagumisiriza said he first developed the idea for his book while pursuing his PhD in Rome. The priest, who holds a doctorate from the Pontifical Gregorian University, said the book explores how African customary marriage and Christian marriage relate to one another.
‎
‎It is intended, he said, to help unmarried Africans, particularly Christians, understand the harmony between the two traditions and to encourage people to embrace formal marriage, especially Christian marriage.
‎
‎“ Christian marriage addresses a number of uncertainties because Jesus Christ is at the centre,” he said.
‎

‎
‎Musasizi urged the priest to use the money to improve the social and economic wellbeing of people around him. He also encouraged him to use available platforms to share the Government’s message of helping communities move from subsistence living into the money economy.
‎
‎Fr. Bagumisiriza thanked President Museveni for keeping his promise and for agreeing to be the chief guest at the book launch.
‎
‎“Even when he couldn’t make it, he sent Minister Musasizi to represent him, and I am so grateful,” he said.
‎
‎The book was launched at Christ the King Parish in Kampala. It is available in several bookshops for UGX 20,000, and copies can also be obtained from Fr. Bagumisiriza’s office at Katigondo National Major Seminary.
‎
‎Fr. Bagumisiriza was ordained as a Priest in the Kabale Diocese on April 23, 1978. His academic background includes a Diploma in Philosophy from Makerere University and a doctorate of philosophy in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University. He currently serves as General Spiritual Director and lecturer at Katigondo National Major Seminary, in Masaka City.

PRESIDENT MUSEVENI URGES EUROPEAN INVESTORS TO TAP INTO UGANDA’S ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has urged European investors to take advantage of Uganda’s economic opportunities, particularly in infrastructure, energy, manufacturing and agriculture, saying investment in productive sectors is key to expanding markets, creating jobs and accelerating economic transformation.    The President made the remarks today at State House Entebbe during a meeting with European Union Ambassadors and investors, where he highlighted Africa’s growing population and expanding market as a major opportunity for European businesses seeking investment and stronger economic partnerships. “This is what we have been advising our European friends to look at, because Africa is a big potential market with its fast-growing population,” he said. President Museveni attributed political instability in some African countries partly to identity-based politics, including tribalism, religious divisions and ideological misunderstandings, as well as a failure to appreciate the role of the private sector in driving economic growth. He said Uganda had learnt from these challenges and emphasised the need for a stable political and economic environment that enables private businesses to invest, expand production and create employment. The President welcomed ongoing and proposed European investments in Uganda, particularly in infrastructure and other productive sectors, saying such projects would strengthen economic links between Uganda and the European market. “All these projects are music to my ears. By constructing these projects here, you are linking the market of Uganda to that of Europe. Why can’t anyone see that?” he asked. On energy, President Museveni said the cost of electricity remained a critical factor in Uganda’s competitiveness, particularly for manufacturers seeking to produce goods at affordable prices. While welcoming private-sector investment in hydropower generation, he called for greater attention to electricity tariffs, arguing that affordable power was essential for industrial expansion and economic growth. He identified affordable electricity, railway transport and accessible financing for productive investments as key priorities for strengthening Uganda’s manufacturing sector. The President cited the Uganda Development Bank as an important source of financing for businesses engaged in productive activities, explaining that the government had retained the institution to support investments capable of expanding production and creating jobs. He also urged the European Investment Bank to channel more financing into strategic infrastructure, particularly railway development, electricity generation and distribution, and selected road projects. On road infrastructure, President Museveni encouraged European investors to explore opportunities in construction and financing models, including tolling arrangements where appropriate. The President also reaffirmed the government’s support for tax incentives aimed at attracting investment, particularly in manufacturing, and emphasised the importance of enabling eligible businesses to benefit from a 10-year tax holiday. ...
