Official Burial Programme for Gen. (Rtd) Hon. Moses Ali announced

The Minister for the Presidency, Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda, who also chairs the National Organising Committee, yesterday briefed the public on the burial arrangements for the fallen Member of Parliament for Adjumani West Constituency and former 2nd Deputy Prime Minister, Gen. (Rtd) Hon. Moses Ali.

Addressing journalists at the Uganda Media Centre this evening, Hon. Babalanda said the country learned with “profound sorrow” of Gen. Ali’s passing on Saturday, 18th July 2026 at 4:00pm at Nakasero Hospital, Kampala. “Immediately thereafter, H.E. the President, as Head of State and Commander in Chief, officially notified the entire country about the passing of an iconic figure in politics, government, military, and Islamic religious life and a respected community leader in the West Nile region,” she said.

In line with Islamic faith, special prayers were organized on Sunday, 19th July 2026 at Naguru Mosque, Islamic University in Uganda – Kibuli Campus, Kibuli Mosque, and Old Kampala Mosque.

“The Government sincerely commiserates with H.E. the President, the bereaved family, the NRM leadership, the people of West Nile, Madi sub-regions, and all Ugandans upon the loss of a renowned leader and dedicated citizen. He will be deeply missed not only by those who knew him, worked with him, and were led by him, but also by generations of Ugandans who drew inspiration from his exemplary leadership and political career,” Hon. Babalanda added.

In accordance with Article 99 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda (1995) as amended, H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni directed that Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali be accorded an official burial.

A hybrid National Organising Committee was constituted, drawing membership from the Office of the President, Parliament of Uganda, the UPDF, Uganda Police Force, and representation from the family.
The committee convened on Sunday, 19th July 2026 at 3:00pm. Tentative Burial Programme:

Monday, July 20, 2026 10:00am – Cabinet sat at State House to pay tribute to the late Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali 5:00pm- Vigil and private prayers at the home residence in Naguru.

Tuesday, July 21, 2026 9:30am – Arrival of H.E. the President at Parliament to pay tribute and officiate as Chief Mourner 10:00am – Parliamentary tribute to the late Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali 2:00pm – Body airlifted to Abiri Chako Village, Adjumani District 5:00pm – Official vigil at Abiri Chako Village, Adjumani District.

Wednesday, July 22, 2026 10:00am– West Nile Region District Council Sitting at Paridi Stadium, Adjumani 12:00pm– Prayers leading to the burial ceremony.

H.E. the Vice President, Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo will represent government.
Minister Babalanda called upon all Ugandans to join in honouring the legacy of Gen. Rtd. Moses Ali and to comfort the family during this period of mourning.
