Presidential Press Secretary Faruk Kirunda awarded the Outstanding National Development Champion 2024

KAMPALA, Uganda: – Faruk Kirunda, Deputy Press Secretary to H.E. the President of Uganda, has been recognized with the prestigious Uganda Development Champions Award 2024. The award, organized by Public Opinions Uganda, honors his outstanding contributions to Uganda’s development, particularly in strategic research and communication.

Kirunda was among 100 personalities who received the award, including Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Prime Minister Robbinah Nabbanja, and Dr Sudhir Ruparelia, East Africa’s richest man.

Public Opinions CEO, Buyinza Adam Luzindana, praised Kirunda’s commitment to excellence in public service, saying it has made him an indispensable asset to the government of Uganda and President Museveni.

“Faruk Kirunda is a beacon of excellence in public service,” Luzindana said. “His dedication, passion, and expertise have made him a trusted and respected figure in the government and media circles.”

Kirunda’s journey began as a local media personality in Jinja, Eastern Uganda, where he built a reputation for honesty and sincerity. He has also demonstrated a deep appreciation for the President’s economic blueprint, prioritizing industrialization, entrepreneurship, and economic empowerment.

Journalists who have worked with Kirunda describe him as knowledgeable, approachable, and supportive. His ability to break down complex issues into understandable narratives has earned him admiration from colleagues.

“Faruk is a true professional,” said one journalist. “He is always willing to share his expertise and provide guidance, making him a valuable resource for both seasoned and emerging journalists.”

Kirunda’s most notable contribution came during the 2021 elections, where he served as Office Administrator at the Office of the NRM National Chairman (ONC). He was credited for setting up structures across the country to coordinate President Museveni’s campaigns.

The Minister for Presidency, Hon Milly Babalanda, and Mr. Yunus Kakande, praised Kirunda’s exceptional coordination skills, attention to detail, and ability to facilitate effective communication between the Ministry, RDCs, and other stakeholders.
