Airtel partners with phone dealers to increase smartphone usage in Uganda

Uganda has 24 million mobile phone users but out of these only 6 million have smartphones. This was revealed by Joweria Nabakka Zziwa, the head of Data, Devices and New products at Airtel Uganda.
Nabakka was addressing phone dealers in a training organised by Airtel Uganda to facilitate the selected top 100 Uganda’s phone dealers that are going to work with airtel in a move to increase smartphone usage in the country.
Joweria Nabakka said in a statement
Every smartphone that will be bought from our partner phone dealers will be loaded with 3GB of data every month for three months. This will also allow the cost of smartphones to come down making it affordable to the average Ugandan
This move, Ms. Remmie Kisakye the head of Brand and Communications at Airtel Uganda said, is aimed at increasing the smartphone penetration in Uganda from 24% to 100%. “We are going to do this by creating an open market by allowing top phone dealers to discount smartphones and make them affordable to the average Ugandan. This will allow profit expansion based on quantities” Kisakye revealed
