 BRIAN MUGENYI: President Museveni’s visionary plans to Transform older people’s retirement  remains beneficial among Ugandans

The president of the Republic of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has traversed the country frequently in these five year’s term of his leadership thereby advising natives and embracing the role championed by the older men and women in the country in steering development by rewarding those that served beyond self to develop others and spreading patriotism among the people within the country

President Museveni 80- years old has governed Uganda for the last thirty eight years since 1986 to date and has randomly been preaching the gospel among the old persons both men and women to invest in transformational retirement planning while in their late days and years in their places of work to cub the vise of poverty within their families during their retirement plan.

As for tracking done details on Tuesday 29th October 2024 while dedicating his congratulatory message delivered to the old persons by the Vice President of Uganda Jessica Alupo during the celebration of World older persons day in Masaka City attended by hundreds of older persons in their respective groups; President Museveni emphasized the need for older persons to involve themselves in proper financial and economic retirement planning to improve on their economic stability during the stage of retirement from work.

“The theme of 2024; Protection and promotion of older persons lives is everyone’s responsibility because age is not an optional aligns well with our affirmative action message and we are reminding the young generation to respect the elderly, take care of them and support them to live a healthier life,” observed the 80-years-old President Museveni.

He added that the government has been supportive to the elderly persons, and they’ve reformed the public service pension scheme and the concentration of payroll have been decentralized and older persons can access their money with ease throughout the country.
“I used to hear very many complaints of older persons trekking to Kampala for their pension and aligning in for long queues could not be allowed to continue and this model is applicable to all older persons,” he added.

Such encouraging words of midset change to the older persons by President Museveni emphasized the need for elderly persons to invest in fighting old age striken poverty by involving themselves in a four-acre model strategy in carrying out farming; zero grazing, fishing and piggery and coffee growing on top of Special Enterprise Grant (SEG) for older persons initiated by the government.

“Older persons can now access shs: 1 million of parish developmental model to be able to boost the four-acre model as part of government schemes to improve the standards of living for older persons, ” added Museveni.

For older persons above 80 years apart from the shs:70,000 given to them quarterly according to Mr. Museveni, the government through the parish development model is carrying out other developmental mechanism to extend more support for caretaker of older persons through the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development under the Parish Development Model.

” Only a caring and people’s entered government like National Resistance Movement (NRM) can deliver such social protection royalties and social pension to older persons is a reality to older persons,” added Museveni.

According to Mr. Museveni, the government tasked the office of Attorney general to revive the older persons ACT of 1995 constitution to enhance protection of older persons and some of the areas considered for reviews are; respect for older persons in all government delivered projects, ensuring mandatory training for healthcare and avoiding youth above 25-years-old with selfish interest to grab older persons property such as land.

“Elderly persons should be loved and respected and should have control over their property such as land. Let us work together” added Museveni.

President Museveni commended development partners; Ireland government represented by Ambassador Kelvin Colgan, United Nation Aid (UK-Aid), World Bank, World food program and others that have labored to assist in changing lives of older persons in the country through extending financial and developmental trainings for them.

“I congratulate and appreciate the contribution made by older persons and we should do the right thing in respecting the dignity of the older persons,” stated Museveni.

Mr. David Mulindwa, the chairperson of older persons in Masaka City thanked President Museveni for the commendable work in transforming lives of older persons and appreciated them for supporting the ruling government thus far
