Global Compassion Coalition petition President Donald Trump to reverse US Aid freeze

WRITES BRIAN MUGENYI
The United States of America (USA) Non government aided organisation Global Compassion Coalition (GCC) have called on the President of the United States Donald Trump to reverse the decision to cut US aid to countries in need to avoid the risk of losing lives of people especially those that have been depending on funding suport to access HIV/Aids vaccine and education among students worldwide.
According to Mr. Matt Hawkins, the Chief Executive officer of Global Compassion Coalition the move of halting all the support and fundings to Non government aided organisation affiliated to US aid support puts millions at risk—causing hunger, disease, and economic collapse while shutting down education and rebuilding efforts. The worst is yet to come, but it’s not too late to stop it.
“The United States has been a friend to these nations before. We ask you to stand with us now — before lives are lost and futures are destroyed,” observed Matt Hawkins
As for clarity, over 1,338 people worldwide affiliated to Global Compassion Correlation including its National coordinator in Uganda Mr Peter Waiswa have signed a petition against President Trump’s decision to take an end of all the support and fuding from United States of America.
The Global Compassion Correlation have been working effortlessly since last week to campiagn against the decision of United States in ending critical aid spending effect to and end and they’re against President Trump’s directive.
Why we’re calling on President Trump to reverse his USAID decision
Last week, with just a stroke of his pen, President Trump ordered the suspension of all USAID operations. That means the agency responsible for delivering food aid, medical supplies, and humanitarian support to millions has been shut down overnight.
Its staff — 10,000 people — have been placed on leave. Programs providing HIV/AIDS treatment, education, and hunger relief have been halted.
Critical support for refugees, disaster response teams, and peacekeeping efforts has vanished.
For the people relying on these services, this isn’t just another political decision. It’s a matter of survival.
Lives upended
” We’ve already heard from from our Coordinators on the ground about the immediate and devastating consequences,” observed Matt Hawkins.
The HIV/AIDS patients who depended on USAID-supplied medicine are finding clinics closed and pharmacies out of stock. Many will now be at heightened risk of infection, serious illness, and death.
Thousands of families expecting food aid have been told that shipments are no longer coming. Hunger will increase. Malnutrition will rise. Children will suffer.
Schools and university programs have shut down, with teachers and students left in limbo, their futures uncertain.
Fear and uncertainty are spreading among the communities that relied on these programs—many of whom have no idea how they will survive the coming weeks and months.
And this is just the beginning. The longer this shutdown continues, the more lives will be upended—and lost.
Seeking a reversal
The team of Global Compassion Coalition National Coordinators for Connectors in Africa have launched too a petition calling on President Trump to reverse his decision.
Firstly, because compassion is about ending avoidable suffering. Right now, no matter what Trump and his team think of the way USAID operates, the suspension of its programs is causing and will continue to cause unimaginable and yet preventable suffering.
Secondly, because the decision is based on a misunderstanding of what it means to be strong and courageous. Courage is about doing the difficult thing. Courage is about turning towards suffering. Courage is about showing compassion. We, the GCC, believe that we need to reclaim the idea of courage to be one that calls upon the very best of humanity.
And lastly, because this decision is a risk to Trump and his citizens as well.
No doubt, the worst and immediate impacts are going to be felt by those who have benefitted from USAID but the ripples of this decision would well send shockwaves across the Atlantic in the months and years to come.
Because the undeniable truth is, we are connected. In a globalised world, decisions made in one place and time can have profound effects elsewhere and into the future.
By further destabilizing societies in Africa and across the world, Trump risks feeding instability, refugee crises, anger, conflict, and hostility that will impact on our world in ways we cannot yet imagine.
For the benefit of himself just as much as humanity, Trump must reverse this decision.
The Global Compassion Correlation has helped numerous communities in Uganda such as in regions of Western Uganda especially at Kyaka II Refugee Settlement at Kyegegwa village where the Western Uganda Compassion Connectors committed to a strategy focused on education, skills and becoming a number one compassionate scheme in Africa and they have extended hands on trainings to diffent people to start out their own business.
The Global Compassion Coalition major aim is to help more people know about the values of compassion and connection and to put these values into practice by giving skills and a greater voice to girls, boys, and young mothers.
