TV Journalist Vows to Drag NUP Supporters to Court over Assault, Damaging Working Tools

National Unity platform (NUP) supporters are facing court orders after assaulting a  television reporter Ibrahim Kavuma during the Send-off ceremony of late legislator Muhammad Ssegiriya in Masaka last Sunday.

According to  Kavuma, attached to BTM television said in one of the video circulating on social media platforms says,  two National Unity platform supporters identified as a one Moore and Warren confronted him while on duty and break-off his camera lens and took away other important journalistic tools which he had selected to assist him during the coverage and reporting of the detailed information concerning the sending-off of the late Ssegirinya to higher masses.

As for clarity, Mr. Ibrahim Kavuma is considering to drag the two National Unity Platform supporter; Mr. Moore and Mr. Warren to court saying that he has  already notified the security organs including Uganda Police Force (UPF) over the matter which left his work and life in turmoil.

He is not only the only journalist whose professional code of conduct and rights have been violated and such important journalistic tools such as camera and other gargets to been mantled by National Unity Platform voters before as Ms Getrude Mutyaba attached to Nation Media Group and several journalists under South Buganda Journalists Association SOBUJA also faced such injurious tales during their period of adhering to their workstation obligations last year.

“I appeal to politicians who are seeking limelight in mainstream media from opposition side National Unity Platform to stop using the media as a tool to trade their ambitions and a ladder for marketing their selfish interests,” Kavuma added in a saddened tone as he advised them to embrace the media and media personalities  as the important individuals in the country who have reported matters of concern to the public including the late Ssegiriya who was a friend to journalists.

According to Mr. Kavuma, the Nation Unity platform supporters should know that the media is esteemed as the fourth arm of the government and it serves both the surveillance and watchdog role to the general public.

“To be frank, the political wave in Uganda ahead of 2025- general campaigns and elections with the influence of emerging political candidates has heated to the death end and is alarming as several media personalities in the mainstream media are on alert as many have faced intimidation before from politicians who prefers to be given a first-come first serve basis in reporting,  yet still, it is the media and it’s professional players that sets the agenda on what should be read, who should be hosted both on radio and Television fitting the legalities of the penal code act and the standards of Uganda Communication Commission (UCC) obligations.
“I am considering to drag them to court to compensate the damages on my camera and I have been backed up by my work employers to ensure that I get fair justice,” he added.
The NUP Secretariat have not issued any statement about the matter.
