Buliisa Fishermen Yield low as Floods continue to hit them

The chairperson Butiaba Beach Management Committee Mr. Musinguzi William explains that they are yielding low in fishing activities and they are hardly surviving since floods hit them.
All businesses have paralyzed due to floods and people are sleeping in cold and barely afford meal a day, am therefore appealing to government to descend and aid us, Musinguzi adds.
The chairperson Wanseko landing site Mr. Mwesigwa Didasco explains that fishermen are yielding low due to floods. He also says that their offices, stores, slabs, and others have been submerged and they don’t have where to operate.

Mrs. Anna Achan a business operator at Kabolwa landing site explains that her business has declined and the fish species they get can’t sustained them. She also explains that beside decline in the business, flooding water has greatly affected them. She further adds that people are sharing small local tents and others don’t have where to sleep.
She has therefore appealed to the government to come on ground and witness how fishermen are starving. “They should provide us with, relief items, food, tents, mosquito nets and others since most of our items were washed away”, She is appealing to the government.
The Buliisa District Fisheries Officer Mr. Philip Ngongoa told Buliisa News Room that they are aware of the situation and have made a report to the OPM through the CAO and are yet to wait for the intervention. He further adds that currently they don’t have fund for aiding fishermen apart from waiting from OPM.
Through the district Covid-19 task force, we appealed to fishermen to vacate from flooded areas and desist from fishing at night and bad weather because of dangerous aquatic animals and contracting waterborne diseases, Mr. Ngongoa explains.
