BUSOGA ROYAL WEDDING CENTRAL ORGANISING COMMITTEE UNVEILED
First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East Africa Community Affairs Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has set off a 25-member Busoga Royal Wedding central organizing committee to start fundraising for the royal wedding between Isebantu Kyabazinga of Busoga His Majesty William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Gabula Nadiope IV and the Inhebantu of Busoga Her Highness Jovia Mutesi.
The Busoga royal wedding is slated for Saturday 18th, November 2023 at Christ’s Cathedral Bugembe, Jinja City.
Rt. Hon. Kadaga was welcomed by Busoga Kingdom’s Prime Minister Dr. Joseph Muvawala Nsekere who was accompanied by members of the central organizing committee headed by Eng. Patrick Batumbya as chairperson.
In her remarks, Rt. Hon. Kadaga urged all the Basoga, well-wishers, and friends of Busoga at large to contribute to the royal wedding through cash donations and make it a magnificent royal wedding in the history of Busoga and Uganda.
Kadaga asked the committee to be careful with people they will approach to contribute towards the royal wedding adding that each one they request money from must be discreet.
She said MTN mobile money code: 707070 in the names of Kyabazinga of Busoga and Airtel Money merchant ID: 4360000 in the names of ObwaKyabazinga Bwa Busoga were established to make it convenient to all those making contributions towards the Royal wedding and encouraged people to contribute massively.
Kadaga said temptations to hoodwink people into collecting cash by unscrupulous individuals will happen and therefore requested radios in Busoga and other media channels to popularize the Momo and Airtel codes above to the public.
She further said that it was now 30 years since a Royal wedding was conducted in Uganda by the Kabaka of Buganda in 1993 and it is now time for Busoga to show the world how it is going to do it.
The chairman of the Busoga Royal Wedding central organizing committee, Eng. Patrick Batumbya said members of the central organizing committee to manage the historical function and several activities and celebrations linked to “Embaga Ya Mwenemu” includes; Tibalira Martin (Vice Chairperson), Mrs. Dorothy Kisaka (Special assignments), Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda (Elected local leaders and RDCs), Owek. Prof. Hajji Dr. Lubega Muhamadi Kisambira (Coordinator-General), Eng. George William Bwanga (Balangira and Abambedha), Dr. Eng. Andrew Naimanye (Private Sector), Hon. Justine Lumumba Kasule (Media and Entertainment), Owek. Alhajji Osman Ahmed Noor (Corporate Companies), Mrs Olive Birungi Lumonya (MDAs and Others), Owek. CPA Ivan Kiirya (Treasurer/Secretary), Mr. Magumba Charles (Operations and Events implementation), and Hon. Justice David Batema (Judiciary).
Others are Omulangira Wanume Paul (Coordinator of Christ’s Cathedral Bugembe), Hajji Kitezala Swaibu (General mobiliser), and Owek. Richard Mafumo (Cultural Protocol, Lukiiko and Clans), Commissioner of Police Basalirwa Jamal (Security). Owek. Joan Machora (Busoga Diaspora Coordinator), Mr. Vincent Waiswa Bagiire (Protocol), Mr. Aggrey Kibenge (Public Servants), Mr. Ranmal V Keshwala (Business and Entrepreneurs), Mr. Aggrey Wunyi (Secretariat) and Hajji Badru Muwanga.
Eng. Batumbya added that the Central Organising Committee shall in execution of their mandate be assisted by several sub-committee members and other volunteers as will be designated and a number of them were unveiled today.
Eng. Batumbya announced that over sh 304 million was fundraised amongst the central committee members for the start. Hon. Milly Babalanda handed over her sh 10 million cash as Tibalira Martin gave in a cheque of sh 10 million.
On the sidelines, KCCA’s Executive Director Kisaka Dorothy, said that as members of the Central organizing committee, they are extremely ready to serve and they want to do it responsibly with excellence and integrity.
