Juuko’s Journey to Advocate for Organic Farming a Threat to his Life

Edward Juuko, is an advocate for organic farming. Juuko’s passion started at a young age during his primary schools, which prompted him to study bachelor’s degree in agriculture and rural innovations at the university.
His passion to work with farmers and emphasized good sustainable farming helped him to seize several training opportunities in Germany and Denmark.
In those training he acquired several certificates and skills in organic farming implementation.
As a member of Farm fresh organic association of Uganda, Juuko’s journey to advocate for organic agriculture farming has turned out to be a threat to some chemical producers, and even to some individuals in the government of Uganda.
“I have received several threats to my life about my work advocating for organic agriculture products. Some of the threats come from government officials, companies that deal in agriculture chemical products,” he said.
Juuko said that he had threatening messages on social media urging him to stop advocating for organic agriculture products.
“my advocating for organic agriculture turned out to be a threat to big chemical company producers and some local dealers including government officials.
I have even reported several complaints to the police station in my area about the threat on my life,” he said.
Juuko’s work entails him to move across several parts of Uganda sensitizing farmers about the dangers of using chemicals on their plants and crops. Through his advocacy work, he has built a good market for organic products through farm fresh organics Uganda.

Juuko said that for so long pesticides and fertilizer companies have decided how we grow food, placing the health and economic burdens of dangerous pesticides on farmers.
“my influence on people across the country has become a big threat to big agro chemical dealers who have a strong upper hand in the government.
Even some politicians wanted to use me to donate fake and dangerous chemicals to farmers but I declined, “he said. Juuko, who survived a narrow accident in 2023, believed that it was staged by his detractors who wanted him to stop his advocacy work.
“My family keeps on getting several threats from people and individuals that are not known, warning them to stop me from going on my campaigns of advocating for organic farming, or else my life will perish”.
