Kasese Mother Appeals for Help After NUP Activist Son Goes Missing

Kasese, Uganda — A mother in Kasese District has appealed for help in tracing her missing son, Muhindo Ronald, a youth activist affiliated to the National Unity Platform (NUP) in western Uganda.

According to the mother, Masika Florence, her son disappeared alongside Lutebuuka Emmanuel, the NUP coordinator for the western region. The two were reportedly prominent youth mobilizers for the opposition party in Kasese District, an area that has shown strong NUP support in recent years.

Masika told reporters that Ronald was last seen traveling to the NUP headquarters in Makerere-Kavule, Kampala, for an internal party meeting. Along the way, he and four others were allegedly confronted by unknown individuals suspected to be security operatives.

Three of the group members were reportedly arrested, while Ronald and Lutebuuka managed to flee and have not been seen since.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the pair could be hiding in an undisclosed location within Kampala’s suburbs. Party sources describe Lutebuuka as a key figure in mobilizing NUP supporters in western Uganda, with alleged links to foreign-based funders supporting opposition activities.

Local observers say the incident comes amid heightened political tensions and increased scrutiny of NUP activists across the country. NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) has in recent months accused state security agencies of targeting opposition supporters, citing multiple cases of arrests and disappearances.

Authorities have not issued an official statement on the matter, and efforts to reach security officials for comment were unsuccessful by press time.

Masika has appealed to the public and human rights organizations to help locate her son, urging the government to ensure the safety of all political activists regardless of their affiliations.

“I just want to know where my son is and whether he is safe,” she said. “We are living in fear every day.”
