Ministry Seeks to Establish National Standards for Childcare Facilities

KAMPALA, Uganda – The Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MGLSD) has expressed concerns over the absence of National Standards for the Establishment and Management of Childcare Facilities for Children below 3 years in Uganda.
During a high-level dialogue on childcare and women entrepreneurs at Bugolobi on Friday in Kampala, Minister Betty Amongi pledged total commitment to ensure that child facilities countrywide are disbursed in place to guide investments and interventions and they have already started sensitizing Ugandans about the initiative.
“By providing access to childcare services to women entrepreneurs, we remove one of the barriers to their competitiveness, giving them the freedom to identify new markets, innovate, and build networks that fuel business growth,” observed Minister Betty Amongi while addressing people in a dialogue that saw the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa and State Minister for youth and children affairs Balam Byarugahara attending.
Additionally, Minister Amongi observed that this approach of getting back to the juvenile children and women in entrepreneurship not only enhances their entrepreneurial potential but also fosters a more inclusive and dynamic business environment in the country thus far.
She assuredly told the congregation that the government under the ruling president Yoweri Kaguta alias Tibuhaburwa Museveni will build a critical mass of more like-minded, result focussed and strategic partners to implement the legal, policy and practice environment for caring for children under the age of 3 years in Uganda as a result of planning for their proper growth and stability in in their families.
