MP Begumisa supports sponsored school children with animal rearing projects

Ssembabule Woman Member of Parliament Mary Begumisa has started an intensified drive that will see more of the students she sponsors in different secondary schools to start independent income generating activities.

The intensified work was launched in Lwebitakuli Sub County over the weekend. Through her Mary Begumisa Foundation, the MP gave out domestic animals for rearing which included pigs, goats. She also gave out bicycles to help the students quickly go to school in the next learning period.

Begumisa said, this is part of her work that would be further education for many of the children in Ssembabule district. She also expects the children to rear the animals to ensure they multiply and be able to get a sustainable income to help they buy school utilities.

“I would like to offer children these things to enable learn how to sustain and make income as I also help more of the people in my constituency. That is why I am teaching them how to start income generating activities for themselves.” Begumisa said.

Previously, school going children in Ssembabule faced challenges in connecting through the road network within the area to get to schools. It is upon that background that the MP bought the bicycles.

She said; “I pray, you look after these animals very well so that they can multiply and act as an alternative source of income.”

She added that she will often monitor the projects to ensure their success. She says, this is part of the efforts to supplement President Museveni’s efforts to increase household incomes.

She also asked the parents to support the children in making the projects a success. She said the parents should help the children in treating the animals as they teach them good farming methods.

Parents for the beneficiaries thanked the MP for supporting the children both with such income generating activities and the payment of school fees. The students include Primary, Secondary and those in higher institutions of learning.

The supported children also thanked the MP and pledged to study hard and attain their set objectives.
