NRM Mukono MPs Return Contraversial 20 Million

MUKONO- The State Minister for Water also MP Mukono North Ronald Kibuule and district Woman MP Peace Mubiru Kusaasira have returned the UGX 20M in cash to the Mukono district task force that was sent to their accounts by the Parliamentary Commission.
Kibuule said that he had no idea that the money was sent to him. “The 20M was sent to my salary account that I didn’t notice I had received it.”
Kusaasira who arrived late during the meeting also said that she has withdrawn the money that was sent to her account and has brought it in obedience to the ultimatum to return the money by May 27.
In a letter dated May 12, the clerk to parliament Jane Kibirige stated that following a meeting of the parliamentary commission on May 11, the commission guided that MPs who spent the money as of May 5, should submit accountability to the clerk to parliament.
Those who had not yet used the money as yet have been asked to take the money to the district task force through the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), while those MPs representing special interest groups should pay the money to the national COVID-19 task-force. All legislators are expected to submit accountability for the money not later than May 27.
The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Mukono Fred Bamwine said that the two legislators from NRM party are the first to bring the money in full.
The money was handed over to the deputy CAO Badiru Mayanja.
He said that they will sit as the executive and decide on the way forward for the money.
“The district executive will hold a meeting to find a way forward for the money. We will then let the district task force on the way forward.” He said
The Ugandan Parliament recently allocated itself 10bn from the Covid -19 supplemental budge. Each legislator was given UGX 20M. The motive of the money was however unclear since several legislators continue to give uncoordinated justification for it.
Mukono District has 5 MPs of which 3 have now brought the money to the district.
