NRM Members Weakens Buganda Caucus in Parliament
Buganda NRM Legislators who are in Kyankwanzi have elected new Buganda caucus office bearers to coordinate party activities among themselves in Parliament in what some have deemed a parallel Caucus, to rival the Buganda Parliamentary Caucus.
According to a statement by the NRM, the committee will also be tasked to lobby programs and projects from Government to benefit the entire Buganda Kingdom and liaise with Mengo establishment to give support to Kingdom programs set to benefit the region.
“The MPs convened in Kyankwanzi National Leadership Institute (NALI) on Sunday evening and harmoniously reached the position to have Kabula Constituency Legislstor Hon James Kakooza as their Chairperson deputised by Hon Hajat Syda Bbumba from Nakaseke South Constituency,” read part of the statement.
Hon Muyanja Mbabaali (Bukoto South) was elected Treasurer, Hon Kasozi Muyomba (Bukoto Mid-West) is the General Secretary and Hon. Simeo Nsubuga (Kasanda South) voted Publicity Secretary.
The MPs also unanimously elected Chief Whip and Kiboga District Woman Representative Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu as an Ex-Official on the Committee while Bukuya MP Dr. Michael Bukenya Kyabikoola is a Committee Member.
Hon Sam Kuteesa Kahamba was elected patron.
Speaking after elections Hon Simeo Nsubuga clarified that the leadership of Buganda Parliamentary Caucus still exists comprising all MPs from Buganda regardless of their political affiliation. The bigger caucus is chaired by Johnson Muyanja Ssenyonga, the Mukono South MP who is said to be at loggerheads with some senior NRM officials.
This has happened after Muyanja opposed the amendment of constitution and OTT and mobile tax which did not please majority of NRM members who supported both bills which are now laws.
However Muyanja insists that he was representing the views of his voters who voted him in parliament after carrying out consultation in entire constituency.
The current decision taken my NRM caucus in Kyankwanze of forming a new Buganda caucus may affect Muyanja indirectly in his constituency especially in coming general elections.
