Police in Hoima Arrests National Unity Platform (People Power) Activist

Police Spokesperson in Albertine Region Julius Hakiza has confirmed the arrest of National Unity Platform (People Power) coordinator in Hoima who has been the ring leader of the rioters who set fire in middle of roads this afternoon.
The suspect who is in police custody has been identified as Moses Aguuda a coordinator of NUP (People Power) in Hoima who is believed to have sparked off riots which affected traffic in Hoima town.

Hakiza explains that Aguuda the Aspiring Member of Parliament of Hoima East, Angalia Godwin the Aspiring MP Buliisa County all on People Power (NUP) ticket and other five people power were opposing their arrest on Sunday evening and detained at Hoima Central Police Station for illegal procession in Hoima Town.
People Power activists were on Tuesday afternoon seen burning tires along Hoima – Fort portal road in Hoima Town demanding for immediate release of the fellow people power activists who are under police custody.
Police managed to disperse them by firing teargas and rubber bullets to crowds who set fire in the middle of the road plus throwing stones on security operatives.

Speaking to our reporter this afternoon, Tinkasimiire Joel the people power registrar Masindi explained that they had requested police to release their colleagues which did not happen which led to riots.
Tinkasimiire also adds that they are coordinating with the team from Kampala and hoping they will be released by unconditionally.
