Remember why Ugandans died during the Liberation War, Masaka Catholic Bishop warns.

Lyantonde, Uganda: As Uganda prepares to celebrate the 36th National Heroes’ Day on June 9th, Rt. Rev. Bishop Serverus Jjumba of Masaka Catholic Diocese has called on the nation to remember and honor the sacrifices made by the country’s fallen heroes. In a heartfelt message in Lyantonde, Bishop Jjumba emphasized the importance of national unity, justice, peace, and equal opportunities for all.
Bishop Jjumba proposed a broader definition of heroes, including not only those who directly participated in combat but also those who provided support, shelter, and prayers during the liberation struggle. This inclusive approach highlights the crucial role played by various individuals in shaping Uganda’s history.
The bishop outlined key areas that the nation should focus on, including: National Unity, Justice, Free and fair Elections among others.
“The spirit of our Liberation heroes should guide us for national development and unity, without it our people died for nothing”, the Bishop warned.
Bishop Jjumba urged the nation to reflect on how well they have taken over from the fallen heroes in these areas. He emphasized the importance of making the legacy and ideals of the heroes a living reality, rather than just a mental exercise. By doing so, Ugandans can create a brighter future for all, built on the principles of unity, justice, peace, and prosperity.
