Ugandan EdTech Goes Global: AkademikIT Selected for Export Accelerator
Kampala, Uganda: A homegrown education technology solution is breaking new ground as it prepares to expand beyond Uganda’s borders.
AkademikIT, the innovative school management platform developed by Bookablehood Ltd, has been selected to participate in the inaugural cohort of Enterprise Uganda’s Export Accelerator Programme (EAP) and has now earned a coveted spot for specialised mentorship with Transformational Business Network (TBN) Africa.
Stephen Okhutu, CEO of Bookablehood Ltd, represented the company in the intensive three-day accelerator held from 16th to 18th March 2026 at the Enterprise Uganda Centre of Excellence in Butabika. Out of hundreds of ambitious Ugandan businesses, only 40 were chosen for this flagship programme, designed to equip enterprises with the skills, systems, and networks needed to compete in regional and international markets.
Following the bootcamp, AkademikIT was among the select few advanced to a seven-week personalised mentorship programme under TBN Africa. This next phase will give expert guidance on export strategy, market entry, compliance, financing, and sustainable scaling, which are critical steps to turn AkademikIT into a regionally exported digital solution.
AkademikIT automates key school operations, including student admissions, fee collection, academic reporting, attendance, exams, and compliance with Uganda’s new curriculum. Built to solve real challenges of transparency, efficiency, and quality in education, the platform is now poised to help schools across Africa operate more effectively while generating export revenue for Uganda.
“This is a proud milestone for us,” said Stephen Okhutu. “The Export Accelerator Programme gave us practical tools to meet global standards of quality and consistency. With TBN Africa’s mentorship, we are accelerating our plans to export AkademikIT’s education automation system, creating jobs, earning foreign exchange, and improving learning outcomes across the continent.”
The programme aligns with Uganda’s ambitious goal of achieving tenfold economic growth through expanded exports. While many participants come from agriculture, manufacturing, and value-added sectors, AkademikIT’s selection underscores a growing recognition that digital and knowledge-based solutions also have strong export potential.
Enterprise Uganda Director General Charles Ocici has emphasised the need for Ugandan businesses to move beyond the local market and build world-class capabilities. The accelerator connects participants directly with key players, including banks (Equity and Absa), the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS), logistics experts, and other ecosystem enablers.
By securing both accelerator participation and TBN Africa mentorship, AkademikIT is positioning itself at the forefront of Uganda’s emerging tech export wave, proving that solutions developed to fix local education challenges can now serve the continent.
