MITALA UMAR: 2026 POLLS: RDCs Don’t Quit; They Resign to Seek Your Vote and Serve Uganda in New Leadership Roles.

Mitala Umar

The New Vision headline of Friday, May 16, 2025, “2026 Polls: 31 RDCs Quit” may have raised eyebrows across the country and beyond. But let us set the record straight: this is not a story of quitting. It is a story of commitment, transformation, and courage to seek a new mandate from the people.

Those former RDCs, RCC’s, Deputies, and Assistants who have tendered their resignations are not abandoning service. On the contrary, they are answering a deeper call to serve at a higher level through elective politics as Members of Parliament, District Chairpersons, NRM District Chairpersons, Mayors, and other leadership roles.

Their record speaks for itself. Under Article 203 of the 1995 Constitution of the Republic of Uganda and Section 70, 71 and 72 of the Local Government Act, these men and women the comrades I speak of have been frontline agents of service delivery, security coordination, public accountability, and the popularization of government programs like the Parish Development Model (PDM). Many have been instrumental in resolving land disputes, curbing corruption, monitoring infrastructure projects, and promoting socio-economic transformation of the Wanainchi.

During their tenure of service, these comrades have engaged extensively with a wide range of key stakeholders involved in service delivery, including government officials, local leaders, security agencies, development partners, community groups among others. They have chaired critical security committee meetings, coordinating efforts to maintain peace and order, while directly addressing the pressing concerns faced by wananchi at the grassroots level. This hands-on experience has given them a deep, firsthand understanding of the challenges ordinary Ugandans face daily from access to services to security and socio-economic development and transformation.

By stepping into the political arena, they bring with them tested experience, grassroots networks, and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by ordinary Ugandans. This transition from appointed to elective office is not an exit; it is a political evolution rooted in the spirit of patriotism and public trust.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) have long championed servant leadership. These comrades are simply continuing that legacy through another legitimate channel the ballot box.

We must support them. As voters, communities, and stakeholders in Uganda’s transformation, this is the time to rally behind leaders who have already proven themselves under pressure.

As Uganda approaches the 2026 General Elections, we stand at a crossroads filled with hope and promise. Among us are leaders who have dedicated years, often under challenging conditions, to the service of our great nation. These are men and women who have worked tirelessly to implement government programs, safeguard our communities, and promote development from the grassroots up.

Now, they seek a new mandate not by appointment, but by the people’s choice. This is a rare opportunity to elect leaders with proven experience, unwavering loyalty to the National Resistance Movement, and a deep understanding of Uganda’s unique challenges and aspirations.

Our country deserves representatives who have walked the path of service, who have demonstrated courage, discipline, and commitment to the values that built our nation. Leaders who will carry the NRM vision forward, ensuring stability, unity, and continued socio-economic transformation.

This is the time to stand behind those who have stood for us. To embrace the candidates who embody the spirit of patriotism and the drive to build a prosperous Uganda for all.

Together, let us honor their sacrifice by turning out in overwhelming numbers. Let us send a clear message that experience, dedication, and loyalty are rewarded at the ballot box. The future of Uganda depends on it, and the NRM remains the trusted vehicle to steer us toward that future.

This is not a resignation. It’s a redirection. Let’s support them all the way.

Vote wisely. Vote for progress. Vote for the leadership that has already proven it can deliver.

For God and My Country.
