Sub County Chairpersons Petition Ministry over Delayed Motorcycle Distribution

Sub county chairpersons in Uganda have given their line ministry and the ministry of finance an ultimatum of one week to avail them with motorcycles that were promised to them by president Museveni to ease their services to the communities.

They have also threatened to quit their umbrella organization Uganda Local governments Association (ULGA) since it has proven not minding f their suffering yet they are members and subscribe to it diligently.

While addressing the press at Collin Hotel in Mukono, Badru Kafumbe the chairperson Kasawo Sub County in Mukono who acts as their chairperson said they have already written to the ministry of local government demanding for their motorcycles and their failure to respond will prompt them storm statehouse where they hope to be heard.

They also complained about the unrealized remittances from the ministry of finance for the last three months which has halted service delivery in their respective local governments.

Some of the sub county chairpersons had motor cycles which they used to perform their duties but majority of them are scraps after being used for a long period of time.

Currently some of sub county chairpersons are either using their personnel vehicles or motor cycles especially those from well established areas while others move using public means of transport to perform their official duties.

The minister for local government Raphael Magyezi when contacted confirmed that plans are underway as they have budgeted for their motorcycles including local council 1 and 2 chairpersons who are going to get bicycles before the end of this year.

He adds that procurement process has been started.
