BENJAMIN BUGINGO: DFCU Bank serves to leave a Legacy in Uganda’s Banking Sector

Dfcu Bank is on a steady lane and rising in monetary terms as a banking institution in Uganda.

From the analytical point of view, following its radical and fascinating innovative measures digitally and reaching out to its clients through offering different services to them and its growth to pinnacle in Uganda is a story worth sharing and narrating as thousands flock to secure bank accounts, loans and safeguarding their money by banking it in Dfcu Bank in 2025 thus far.

At the tranquil Dfcu bank branch in Masaka City offices lays a smiling general Manager Mr. Benjamin Bugingo handling clients with services and along the team work of his fellow employees; bank tellers and operation manager and the banking facility is too swamped with clients banking their money for safety, future planning and security reasons as others smile off after being cleared with their loan requests and those who applied for Automatic Visa Cards are smiling off to them after their clearance and they can now access their money digitally through using the Automatic Machine all innovations by Dfcu Bank thus far.

As I take over to gather a narrative from Mr. Bugingo, it is energizing to see how he has braved the Dfcu Bank institutional code of conduct and future plan agenda and he has been in the banking sector for the last twelve years; lived up to a dream worth sharing in empowering women and men through business literacy, financial literacy and business management and clearing clients with loans; Benjamin Bugingo.

“DFCU Bank is willing and capable to empower men, women and youth through their respective businesses such as those in hairdressing, farming, hardwares and other business that generates revenue to them,” Bugingo shares with a smiling face.

Banding on the twelve years of experience in the banking sector, serving as a DFCU Bank Masaka City’s branch manager, customer relationship manager, reconciliation officer and Banking officer.

Bugingo is a certified banker qualified in customer acquisition, relationship management, bank assurance, agent banking basics and risk management altogether.

The early beginnings of Bugingo as DFCU Banking manager in Masaka City has been a work filled with hard work; commitment and being accountable in the banking sector management altogether.

The Tales of Bugingo as a formidable face at the managerial desk of DFCU Bank is a one that is soothing as customers flock his desk for inquiries and seek receptive attention and this has raised the flag of Dfcu Bank thus far.

It is crystal clear that Bugingo is paying off the price by exercising his passion in the banking sector which grew as early as 2012 as a banking teller at Bank of Africa and thus far.

The voyage of his banking managerial ambitions grew as early as a student at Kako Secondary School when he hatched the idea of becoming a banking manager to a one- cousin Andrew Magunda during his maiden visit at Stanbic Bank in 2004 and got inspired by the banking system.

“I told him (Magunda)I wanted to become a banking manager and when I rolled off with Advanced Level (A’ Level) at Lubiri Secondary School; I chose; History, Economics and Divinity which I passed well to pursue Business Administration course at Makerere University,” he said.

Bugingo married Ms Irene Kugonza whom they have produced two boys and served as the bank manager for Bank of Africa.

In the twelve years voyage Bugingo knows little more than being accountable with finance and business management.

Bugingo shares that a lot of resilience has been realized in the banking sector ever since he prioticied work and innovative ideas as the primary role in all the business initiatives championed by DFCU Bank.

“A lot of reforms and savings and liquidity has been realized in the business sector. People have realized that saving money with us digitally costs less and they’ve adapted to all our programs,” Bugingo, who joined DFCU Bank in February 2022says.

Bugingo is a graduate with Bachelor’s Degree of Arts in Economics at Makerere University which he attained in 2011 before enrolling for a Master’s Degree in Business Administration at Uganda Martyrs University in 2020.

For the last twelve years; Bugingo has always been inspired by the permanent secretary at the Ministry of Finance Keith Muhakanizi.

“I managed to focus in banking and recently I graduated with a Certificate in Insurance in Information Technology from Insurance Training College to attain more skills and relevancy in my career,” he says.

He shares that a lot has transpired in the business sector.

“The people should go digital to survive and trade their businesses online,” he says.
“A lot of potential in trade finance, commerce and tourism and employment of the local market has been realized,” he shares.

Averagely; majority of the people in the banking sector at DFCU bank are Ugandans and they are credible enough in foreign currency transactions and savings.

At 34- years-old; Bugingo shares that they employ a total of 15000 staff members in the country and he manages a formidable staff of nineteen employees at DFCU Bank in Masaka City.

He is credited for braving the economic trials and emerging business influence in management at his present day managerial slot.

He shares that the growth of Masaka City has elevated the economic sector whereby the public has trusted them and grown thus far.

The early beginnings of Bugingo to the elevation as DFCU Banking manager in February 2022 to date in Masaka City has been a work filled with hard work; commitment and being accountable in the banking sector management.

Bugingo married to Ms Irene Kugonza whom they have produced two children and served as the bank manager since then; knows little more than being accountable with finance and business management.

Bugingo shares that a lot of resilience has been realized in the banking sector ever since he acclimatized women as the primary benefits in all the business initiatives championed by DFCU Bank including Raising Women program that has impacted women emancipation indifferent businesses through regions; Masaka, Mbale and Fort Portal District.

“A lot of savings and liquidity has been realized in the business sector. People have realized that saving money digitally costs less and they’ve adapted to the programs,” Bugingo who joined DFCU Bank in February 2022 says.

Bugingo attended Lubiri Secondary School and Kako Secondary School before switching to Makerere University where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Economics Degree in 2011 before enrolling for a Master’s Degree in Business Administration at Uganda Martyrs University in 2020.

In Uganda women were granted a courtesy of17 percent loan initiative worth shs: 10m to shs: 1 billion.

Bugingo shares that they employ a total of 15000 staff members in the country and women are credited for braving the economic trials and emerging business influence in management.

“We have exerted a lot of energy on the Rising Women program to change the women’s productivity and capital in their businesses. It is clear that a 17 percent benefit is granted for women pursuing loans worth shs: 10m to shs: 1billion,” he says.

He shares that the growth of Masaka City has elevated the economic sector whereby women have grown into managers in businesses; Hardwares, beverage distributors and those in Agro-business have all lifted the economy.

“The blessing of two markets; Masaka Central Market and Nyendo Market have all impacted the economy and wholesale consumption is promising,” he says.

Bugingo says women in the Greater Masaka region have cooperatively organized themselves in different associations and many pursue loans from DFCU Bank and affiliated groups.
Mrs Grace Bwogi is credited with Bwogi farms enterprising business is one of the focal women that has lifted up the transition of business literacy and starting small businesses with little investment.
