No Ugandan Referee to Officiate in AFCON 2019

Confederation of African Football (CAF) have announced the provisional list of referees and assistant referees to officiate the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

The provisional list includes 25 referees and 29 assistant referees but no Ugandan official has been selected by Caf despite having eleven male referees with Fifa badges.

Uganda last had a referee officiate at the Afcon tournament in Angola 2010, and that was Muhammad Ssegonga.

The list of referees sees the presence of 20 different nationalities from across the continent.

Three referees from host country made the list, namely Gehad Grisha, Mahmoud El-Banna, and Amin Omar.

The summoned referees will go through medical screening, theoretical and physical drills in their quest to make the list for the final tournament.

The 2019 African Cup of Nations is set to take place in Egypt between June 21 and July 19.
