Rtd Major Nathan Musiime Parata to Contest for MP- Rushenyi Constituency in Ntungamo District

Maj. Rtd Nathan Musiime Parata, fondly known as Omunyauganda, is a man whose life journey reflects the spirit of resilience, leadership, and commitment to service. Born on May 31, 1963, to the late Yafesi Parata and Mrs. Joy Kantengwa Parata in Kakanena village, Kakanena Parish, Rubaare Sub-County, Kajara South constituency, Mbarara District. Musiime Nathan Parata’s path from a humble village in western Uganda to becoming a distinguished senior officer and teacher is a remarkable tale of dedication and hard work. His birthplace is now part of Enkurura village, Kamahuri Parish, Rugarama North Sub-County, Rushenyi Constituency, Ntungamo District. Musiime Nathan Parata is the second-born child of six, which includes four boys and two girls.

His Early Education.

Musiime Nathan Parata’s academic journey began at Ruyonza 11 Boys Primary School, where he completed his Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) between 1973 and 1979. Eager to continue his education, he moved on to Rugarama Secondary School from 1980 to 1981, and later changed to Muntuyera High School-Kitunga from 1982 to 1984 from where he completed his Ordinary Level (O’Level) studies.

In 1985, he enrolled at Kigezi College Butobere (Siniya) in Kabale District for his A ‘Level studies, which he successfully completed in 1987. Nathan took another important step in his education by enrolling at National Teachers College,Kakoba in Mbarara for a Diploma in Education(Secondary-English and CRE) between 1987 and 1988 and later at the National Teachers College-Kabalega, completing his second year Diploma in Education in 1989. His pursuit of academic excellence did not stop there—he later upgraded to a Bachelor’s Degree in Education (B.Ed.) at Ndejje University, Luwero Campus, from 2002 to 2005.

 

His Teaching and Military Career.

Musiime Nathan Parata’s teaching career began in 1989 at Bweranyangi Girls’ Secondary School, where he worked as a teacher of English. While there, he further expanded his knowledge by attending a three-months cadreship course at the National School of Political Education (NSPE) in Kyankwanzi, now known as the National Leadership Institute (NALI). This experience would shape the future course of his life, fusing his dedication to education with a commitment to the service of his country.

In October 1991, Musiime Nathan Parata’s journey took a significant turn when he joined the military, undertaking Basic Military training at Kasenyi Training School in Entebbe. After completing his training in May 1992, he was deployed as a Political Commissar at a company level in Presidential Protection Unit (PPU) which is now Special Forces Command (SFC) and a Switchboard Operator to the President at State House, Entebbe. His duties also included guarding the presidential jet and providing security as an Aide to Very Very Important Persons (VVIPs).

 

Musiime Nathan Parata’s career as a senior officer and teacher was intertwined for many years. From 2000 to 2010, he served in the Directorate of Education, where he was deployed as a Political Commissar and a teacher of English at various army schools, including Mubende Army Senior Secondary School and Mbarara Army Boarding Secondary School. His role in education continued to grow, and he attended several leadership and training courses, such as the Political Education Leadership Course (PELC) at NALI Kyankwanzi in 2009 and a Trainer of Trainers (TOT) course at NALI in 2010.

 

Musiime Nathan Parata’s leadership abilities led him to further military deployments in various capacities, including as a Directing Staff and Political Commissar at NALI (2010-2013), Political Commissar at the School of Information Technology and Office Management in 2013, and Political Commissar at the Uganda Military Academy-Kabamba (2013-2015). He did a Peace Support Operations Course in Singo Training School from February to December,2015 and this preceded his deployment to Somalia as a Political Commissar with Battle Group 16 under AMISOM, where he served until 2016.

 

In the years that followed, Musiime Nathan Parata was assigned roles that required both military acumen and administrative expertise, including serving as an Administrative Officer for the 3rd Mountain Battalion in Karugutu, Ntoroko District, and as a Directing Staff at the Oliver Reginald Tambo School of Leadership- Kaweweta, Nakaseke District.

 

Musiime Nathan Parata’s extraordinary endeavors earned him a Peace Support Operations Course in Singo Training School from October – December 2019 and later internationally deployed to Equatorial Guinea as a Political Commissar and Chief Administration Officer for UPDF Taskforce 111 from January 2019 to January 2020. From January 2020 to June 2022, he served as a Civil-Military Relations Officer (CIMIC Officer) for Battle Group 37 (BG XXXV11) in Somalia under ATMIS, promoting cooperation and peacebuilding efforts in a complex environment.

 

Retirement and Continued Service

 

Musiime Nathan Parata retired from active military service on September 9, 2024, where he was awarded an accolade for his distinguished patriotic and political ideological work in Joint Staff Political Commissariat. However, his dedication to leadership and mentorship remains unwavering as he continues to serve as a Directing Staff at NALI Kyankwanzi, where he imparts his vast experience and wisdom to the next generation of military and political leaders.

 

Leadership and Community Engagement

Throughout his life, Musiime Nathan Parata has held numerous leadership positions. In 1980, he served as the Chairman of the Uganda Patriotic Movement at Kakanena, laying the foundation for his leadership journey. At Muntuyera High School-Kitunga,he became an active member of the Debating and Drama Clubs and later represented his school as a Class Representative in the National Union for Students of Uganda (NUSU).

 

Musiime Nathan Parata’s leadership flourished at Kigezi College Butobere, where he served as Caretaker President of NUSU and won awards in History. He contested for Guild Presidency at the National Teachers College-Kakoba. He was appointed Advisor to the Guild President at Ndejje University further solidifying his leadership credentials.

 

Within the army, Musiime Nathan Parata was a Teacher Representative on the School Board at Mubende Army Secondary School and served as Secretary to the Disciplinary Committee at Mbarara Army Secondary School.These roles allowed him to influence both academic and disciplinary decisions.

 

In his personal life, Musiime Nathan Parata has a deep passion for reading political literature, which has further shaped his political perspectives. He enjoys debating political issues and walking, which provides him with both relaxation and mental clarity. His love for teaching and mentorship continues to define his life, as he remains committed to helping others reach their potential.

 

Maj. Rtd Nathan Musiime Parata’s life is one of unwavering service to both his country and his community. His story is a powerful reminder of the impact one individual can have in shaping the future, whether in the classroom, on the battlefield, or within the broader community. As he continues his service at NALI Kyankwanzi, Nathan Musiime Parata remains a beacon of dedication, wisdom, and excellence.
